Cottonwood
8 x 10 Gum over cyanotype contact printed on Fabriano Artistico 140 lb HP
The photographs on this page are images of the way I see my world. Some are represented by by conventional photography and most recently they are shown through prints made with "Alternative Processes" such as Cyanotype and Gum Bichromate. I appreciate your observations and comments...or just say "Hello!"

I'm new to your blog and love your images. Thanks for sharing them. I'm particularly interested in your border technique on the Cottonwood image. Have you done a tutorial on how you achieve this effect? Thanks, Steve
Thank you, Steve! The borders are the result of the process that I use. This image was made by contact printing the same b/w negative on a piece of watercolor paper two different times. Each printing was done using a chemical process in which the chemical is brushed onto the paper using a watercolor brush. If you look at the print you can see that the border is the result of brush strokes made while applying this chemical. In this print my first print was made using cyanotype which is the chemical for making blue prints. So after my first contact print I had a blue image with a blue border. The second print was made using the gum bichromate process. This chemical was mixed with a black and burnt sienna watercolor paint and again brushed on using a watercolor brush. Again, if you look at the the print you will see in the border where the brush marks overlap the 1st blue marks. If you google "gum prints" and "cyanotype prints" you will find more in depth explanations of the process, or if you have specific questions, just let me know.
Thank you - facinating, unique and very attractive
